Squire’s Garden Centres has bought Horsham based Barnsfold Nurseries Limited.

Squire’s Garden Centres

The announcement sees the coming together of two companies who know one another well, with Barnsfold having been a long-standing supplier of bedding plants to Squire’s over many decades. Sharing very similar business principles, Barnsfold and Squire’s are looking forward to working even more closely together in the future.

For Squire’s, which began as a nursery business itself in 1936, this marks a very welcome return to offering more home-grown plants. Squire’s prides itself that at least 80% of the plants they sell are UK grown, with many grown very locally to its garden centre locations and the opportunity to acquire Barnsfold fits well with that commitment, which supports the local economy and reduces plant miles.

Barnsfold Nurseries will remain a separate company within the Squire’s group, with the existing Barnsfold management team remaining in place. The company will continue to work with its current customer base, as well as looking to expand that base in the future.

Sarah Squire, Chairman of Squire’s Garden Centres, comments:

“Barnsfold Nurseries is a business we have worked with and admired for many years. We very much

respect the leadership team at Barnsfold as well as the commitment, knowledge and experience of the whole team. The great plants they grow speak for themselves. We look forward to working with everyone at Barnsfold as, together, we enter a new phase in the history of both companies.

“There is great synergy between the two companies – two long-established horticultural businesses with shared values. We are certain that, together, both businesses will prosper and thrive.”

John Turner, Barnsfold Nurseries Limited, comments:

“We have a longstanding relationship with Squire’s as a supplier to their 16 garden centres.  We are delighted that they have become the new owners of the business and are confident in the next chapter; being part of the Squire’s Group will bring exciting opportunities to grow together in the future.”
